Want fun? Come Down to Austin
Austin, Texas is located in Central Texas on the eastern edge of the American Southwest and is the fourth largest city in the State of Texas. Austin is a beautiful city with hills, valleys and lakes that run throughout the city.
It is also the Capitol of Texas and therefore home of the Texas Capital Building which has a very interesting history and past. The south entrance of the Capitol building serves as the departure point for several free guided walking tours of downtown that explore Austin’s past for history buffs.I found some more information here. The area of Congress Avenue and Sixth Street (Pecan Street) National Register District interweave 19th century building with modern skyscrapers. For those interested in the lives of the Victorian-era high society, you can take a scroll through the Bremond Block Historic District, a collection of homes belonging to the John Bremond, Sr. family. Austin is also home the The University of Texas, a university with an enrollment of over 48,000 with a broad mission of undergraduate and graduate education, research and service to society. The Colorado River also runs thru Austin and provides boating and other water activities as well as beauty to Austin’s visitors and residents. If you are a music lover you will want to check out Austin City Limits which is a music show of shows that is produced locally and heard on the local PBS channel and other TV stations across the country. Austin is visited by many of the popular music performers and is home to many of the local performers. You might also enjoy visiting Barton Springs Pool, a spring fed swimming pool in Zilker Park that maintains near 68 degree waters or take a scenic cruse along Town Lake for cocktails, dinner, bat watching or sightseeing. Visitors will have lots of choices for fun times.
