The Veloway

VelowayDirections
Take Mo-Pac (1) south past Slaughter about 1/4 mile and turn left (you'll see a sign for the Veloway). It's located near the Wildflower Research Center.

General Information
The Veloway is a 3.1 mile paved loop set aside for bikers and rollerbladers. The trail is set on approximately 100 acres. The trail is ideal for riders of all levels. It is about the width of a typical two way street. Slower traffic stays to the right, allowing plenty of passing room on the left. The trail winds through wooded areas with slight to moderate inclines and declines. The paved trail is ideal for serious cyclists who prefer not to share the road with cars.

I found the veloway ideal for cycling with my daughter. She's not ready to hit the dirt trails, and I get tired of riding around the block in the neighborhood. The trails are plenty wide, so I never had to worry about hindering serious riders.

VelowayRules
Not many, and not complicated. No walking or jogging traffic. The veloway is strictly for not-motorized wheeled traffic. Rule #2: Slower traffic stays to the right. Rule #3: The Veloway is a one-way trail. This really makes the traffic easier to navigate and safer.

Good to Know

  • No entrance fee
  • Bring water. There are water fountains, but they tend to put out warm water during the summer.
