Pool, Inks Lake,
the Veloway, Brushy

Rock.
One
of the most appealing aspects of Austin is the amount of outdoor
activities. You can go rollerblading on the Veloway, mountain
biking on the Greenbelt, camping in the hill country, or boating
on Lake Travis. The list could go on forever. To get you started,
check out LCRA's
park page. Next, check out the Texas Parks and Wildlife's
park
finder. AustinExperience will do its best to profile some
of our favorite spots, and get some additional links set up soon.
Another
valuable resource is LCRA's
map page, which provides you with locations and information
about the parks on the lakes.

| Hamilton
Pool - Hamilton Pool is by far one of the coolest places
to hang out in the Austin area. Essentially, it is an underground
cave or grotto that collapsed thousands of years ago, leaving
a half dome-shaped ledge that covers part of the pool below.
Much of the year, a steady stream of water falls to the rocks
and water below... read

| Pace
Bend Park - I am always on the lookout for good camping
spots around Austin. The problem is finding something that
appeals to everyone. Pace Bend is definitely on the top of
my list. The park is surrounded on three sides by Lake Travis.
It is over a thousand acres with several hundred campsites.
I always camp at the primitive sites, but improved sites are
available for RVs... read

| The
Veloway
- The Veloway is a 3.1 mile paved loop set aside for bikers
and rollerbladers. The trail is set on approximately 100 acres.
The trail is ideal for riders of all levels. It is about the
width of a typical two way street. Slower traffic stays to
the right, allowing plenty of passing room on the left. The
trail winds through wooded areas with slight to moderate inclines
and declines. The paved trail is ideal for serious cyclists
who prefer not to share the road with cars... read

| Enchanted
Rock
- Everybody has a mental checklist of places they need to
see. Add Enchanted Rock. Not because it is the most wonderful
place on the earth, or its the birthplace of your favorite
musician. Add it to your list because it's one of those sights
that make you stand back and say, "Whoaa!!" It's
huge. In fact, it's about 640 acres of pure rock. I'm not
talking about rocks. I'm talking one big rock... read

Colorado
River - I've checked out different parts of the river
around Austin, and found that the Webberville area is a great
combination of seclusion and convenience. The river is fairly
wide the entire stretch, and easily navigatable. The river's
pace picks up around bends and around the island located about
half way down this stretch of the river... read

| Inks
Lake State Park - A friend of mine had been camping twice
at Inks Lake; once in a mini-cabin, and once at a traditional
campsite for tent camping. They raved about how much they
enjoyed the park. I called a week in advance and was not able
to reserve a camping spot because they were all booked. So,
my wife and I decided to head out for a day trip... read

Brushy
Creek Trail - I, personally, am more concerned about
the trail itself. This is an easy ride. The trail is approximately
2.7 miles. About two-thirds of it is packed granite the other
third is paved concrete. The grade is under 5 degrees for
98% of the trail and it averages 10 feet or more in width.
The trail is ideal for kids, families pulling bike trailers,
joggers, etc... read
