Many people may be familiar with the IALAC story as first developed by Doctor Sidney B. Simon of the University of Massachusetts. In this story which has been retold many times a little child has a large sign on as he gets out of bed in the morning. The sign reads IALAC and reminds the child that he is lovable and capable. As the child goes through his day, many events happen that make the child feel less lovable and capable. Finally, at the end of the day his sign has totally disappeared, as has his self-esteem.This/tag helps explain it more. Of course, this story is based on reality and happens countless times to everyone.
The good news is that in Austin, Texas, people have taken this story to heart and are actively working to show people that they are lovable and capable. People go out of their way to make sure that you know that you are welcome in the city. People are truly concerned about them. Instead of the sign getting torn up, the sign gets bigger as the residents of Austin, Texas, work together to help each other. Neighbors truly know how to be great neighbors. After all, in Austin, Texas, everyone knows their someone.

Rich in history and culture, bustling Austin has something for every visitor to enjoy during their stay. It is easy to imagine that the Texas state capitol may have a certain draw to the affluent; however, there is plenty for the average traveler to enjoy as well in their journey through this rich region.

No trip to Austin would be complete without visiting the Texas State Capitol. Built in 1888 of pink granite, the impressive structure soars 302 feet in the air and measures 14 feet higher than the nation’s capitol building. Admission is free for daily guided tours. The Texas Hill Country is rich with beauty at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. Visitors to the area may enjoy a dip in Barton Springs Pool, a consistent 68-degree, artesian spring-fed pool in Zilker Park. The Lady Bird Hike and Bike Trail is a popular choice as well as this 10.1-mile path borders the lake winding towards and through downtown Austin.

Many other attractions await visitors at a reasonable or free cost and make this city a great choice for families wishing to fully experience the elaborate history of the region. Austin truly offers something for everyone at any budget.More info here: Austin Weekend Happenings

Often when someone thinks of Texas, the first thought that comes to mind is its size. In that case, how can one city be greater than the whole that contains it? As it concerns Austin, the issue is mistaking quantity for quality.

Austin is a large city that feels like a small town. While its population was recorded as 656 thousand in 2000, its people are usually quite friendly to locals and visitors alike.

Austin is also one of the most diverse cities in Texas, both culturally and environmentally. Its reputation for live music is well deserved, and any eclectic musical taste is sure to be satisfied in any of its many clubs and bars.

After a good rain, swim in Austin’s many lakes and rivers, or enjoy the spring-fed Barton Springs pool. Canoeing or kayaking the Colorado River are also pleasant ways to pass the time, as is a nice hike or bike ride along one of the many green belts.

Austin is also home to companies of every size, from the massive Dell to the solo startup. Anyone looking for a great place to play and work in Texas would do well to consider what Austin has to offer.

So you-ve seen the clips of South by Southwest on your Direct Star TV and you-ve heard about the great bar scene in Austin but did you know the coolest city in the Lone Star state has a great food scene as well? Here are a few of our favorite eats in Austin that won-t break the bank
Stony-s: It-s right in downtown and it-s got some of the best pizza in the south ” what more could you ask for? Get two slices for around 5 and take in some of the best people watching in the city, too.
Kebabalicious: What-s better than an incredibly cheap, unique concept joint? This Turkish place has all the usual suspects but their lamb kebabs are what keep people coming back. You can smll them a mile away but remember to bring cash.
ChilAlantro BBQ: If you like Texas BBQ get out your bib and try some of this southwestern tinged fare. It-s cheap and delicious and if you-re looking for a filling meal, you-ve come to the right place. The pulled pork with sauce is our favorite.
