You’re Someone! You’re in Austin, Texas
By admin | August 31, 2011
Many people may be familiar with the IALAC story as first developed by Doctor Sidney B. Simon of the University of Massachusetts. In this story which has been retold many times a little child has a large sign on as he gets out of bed in the morning. The sign reads IALAC and reminds the child that he is lovable and capable. As the child goes through his day, many events happen that make the child feel less lovable and capable. Finally, at the end of the day his sign has totally disappeared, as has his self-esteem.This/tag helps explain it more. Of course, this story is based on reality and happens countless times to everyone.
The good news is that in Austin, Texas, people have taken this story to heart and are actively working to show people that they are lovable and capable. People go out of their way to make sure that you know that you are welcome in the city. People are truly concerned about them. Instead of the sign getting torn up, the sign gets bigger as the residents of Austin, Texas, work together to help each other. Neighbors truly know how to be great neighbors. After all, in Austin, Texas, everyone knows their someone.
